Re-posting: Avaaz

I've just signed this petition:
Bluefin tuna will be wiped out unless drastic action is taken to stop overfishing at international talks next week. Without these magnificent fish oceanic ecosystems could collapse.

The EU is proposing emergency cuts in tuna catches and for the first time Japan, which consumes 80% of Bluefin tuna, is supporting. But this is a multi billion dollar shady industry and trading countries are trying to derail the plan, putting short term profits before the future of our oceans and fishing economies.

Sign the petition to save Tuna and forward this email -- an urgent global outcry delivered into these talks could tip the balance towards a deal that saves this ecologically crucial fish:

To all parties of the International Convention for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT):

Overfishing has led bluefin tuna to the brink of extinction. We urge you to agree to a global recovery plan, including zero to 6,000 tonnes catch quotas, effective and transparent enforcement, strict penalties against violator countries, and the creation of protected spawning reserves. The future of our fishing communities and life in our oceans is at risk.
