Re-posting: Greenpeace

If you haven't written to your MEP already through the WWF Paint a Fish campaign (for the original blog post please click here), please consider this Greenpeace action, with amazing info-video.

SCANDAL: Our fishing communities need your help

A clique of foreign fishing barons, and companies linked to illegal and destructive fishing, are dominating one of the most influential lobby group in the UK’s fishing industry: the National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations (NFFO).

Our investigation shows that they work against the interests of small-scale and sustainable fishermen by denying them a say in important decisions across Europe.

Fishing laws are being reformed right now and sustainable fishing communities need your help. In just a few days, all our MEPs will vote on how to fix the broken fishing laws that have devastated our seas. Together, we can make this vote a success.

Email your MEPs telling them to support the changes needed to save our oceans.
Europe's fishing laws - the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) - currently favour the most powerful parts of the fishing industry with ships that use destructive methods and have brought our fish stocks to the brink of collapse.
But proposals recommended by the European parliament’s fisheries committee in December could allow our fish stocks to recover after decades of overfishing and reward those who fish in a sustainbale way.
This is our opportunity. Please email your MEPs to help secure a fish-filled future.
